Tom Beck is currently serving his fifth term as County Engineer of Richland County, Ohio. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University where he also completed his surveying course work. He is a registered Professional Engineer and Professional Surveyor in Ohio.
Tom brings over 30 years of professional engineering and construction experience to the County Engineer's office. This includes owning and operating his own construction company, Clearfork Construction, Inc., for 14 years, plus managing sewer and water line departments for two other companies.
In his tenure as County Engineer Tom has presided over a steady improvement in the county’s road infrastructure. Since 1989 when Tom took office over 130 county bridges have been replaced or have undergone major rehabilitation. From 1999 through 2003 Tom was able to pave over 150 miles of county roads using funds from the county’s half percent sales tax and from state and federal sources. Major road improvement projects include Cook Road extension and the South Lexington Springmill Road realignment. Major projects planned for the future include the replacement of the Illinois Avenue Railroad Bridge, the State Route 13/O’Possum Road Connector plus many more bridge replacements.
Tom is active in the County Engineer’s Association of Ohio and served as its President from 2001 to 2002. He is a member of the Mansfield Richland Area Chamber of Commerce, the Shelby Chamber of Commerce, and the Mansfield Kiwanis Club. He has additionally served as a member of the Ontario Board of Education since 1981.
Tom is a lifelong resident of North Central, Ohio. He and his wife Jan live in Springfield Township.
